Since 2006 Pretty 'n' Pink has been supporting breast cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland in a financial capacity. Funds can be used for a variety of practical requirements, such as;
Christmas presents for the children
Essential home adjustments
While we ultimately put theses things first, funds can also be used for more pleasurable experiences, such as;
Family night out
These breaks may provide the opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones and are usually used at the end of treatment to escape from the 'norm' and have some time not having to think about cancer.
Criteria for application
In order to be considered for a grant the patient should meet the following criteria:
Be resident in Northern Ireland.
Currently be receiving treatment for breast cancer, have completed treatment within the last 6 months, or still be affected by cancer or the treatment of cancer.
Providing the patient meets the above criteria, an application can be submitted either for the patient, or for the family of the patient (spouse or child) for something that could help the family member or the family as a whole. If applying for a grant on behalf of the family or a family member then it should be demonstrated in the application that the patient's cancer has had a direct impact upon the family member in question.
How to apply
All Pretty 'n' Pink applications must be completed by a medical / health care practitioner involved in the patients care such as a social worker, breast care nurse, consultant, GP, occupational therapist etc. This person must be familiar with the patients circumstances and be able to provide further information if requested. Both the medical / health care practitioner and the patient must check and verify information supplied before signing and returning to Pretty 'n' Pink.
Patients who are currently attending Belfast City Hospital for treatment can access Pretty 'n' Pink funds by making an appointment to speak with one of the oncology social workers based in The Cancer Centre, who will complete an application form on the patient's behalf. The social work team can be contacted on 02895 040407.
Patients who are not attending Belfast City Hospital can contact Pretty 'n' Pink direct to request an application form. The patient must then have the form completed by a relevant medical / health care practitioner involved in their care and returned to Pretty 'n' Pink direct at:
Pretty 'n' Pink, 20 Adelaide Street, Belfast, BT2 8GD.
All the information provided in the application will be taken into consideration. The application should demonstrate that there is a clear connection between cancer and the request for help. Each application will be assessed according to individual need and circumstances, and therefore grants supplied can very accordingly. Although not means tested, your financial situation will be considered when you apply.
We are delighted that we can offer this service and hope to continue to do so long into the future, we thank all our fundraiser’s, supporters and all who help us make this possible.
