Up to 3.5 million children are at high risk from deadly water-borne diseases in Pakistan following the country's floods, a UN spokesman has said.
In southern Pakistan, floods continue to cause havoc with water surging from the province of Sindh to neighbouring Balochistan.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who visited Pakistan, said the floods were the worst disaster he had seen
FAMILY TIME TOGETHER
I was completely floored to learn that I had to start chemo again as I was hoping not to face this scenario for a few more years. But when the news came my whole world and plans all fell apart and I felt I had lost a grip on my life. Having all the family at home all together again helped me regain a sense of joy. Because of this grant my son is able to come home again for his grandmother's 90th birthday in May which will be very special for the extended family too.
When I had breast cancer in 2004, I had no idea that there were wonderful things like this for families struggling to cope on so many levels. This grant is hugely appreciated by us all and gives me great piece of mind that my son could come home without money worries. Thank you so much.
LETTER TO MARGARET BROWNE
I am writing to say a HUGE THANK YOU for both the lovely letter you sent and of course the cheque. I was delighted when I received a personal letter from you saying you had met my mother at the hospital and that Pretty n Pink would like to help towards my expenses of travelling to visit mum for her treatment. The money has really helped take the pressure off financially at this difficult time. I think it's wonderful that Pretty n Pink exists to help people in this way and I plan on doing some fundraising this year to help towards keeping the charity doing the same for other people. We have just received the fantastic news that the chemotherapy sessions are working and the tumour is shrinking, hoorah! This really is the positive news we were all waiting for. Once again thank you so very much.
Just a note to thank you for the very generous cheque which was sent to my daughter. We are both very grateful as this has made a big difference to the cost of journeys to Belfast to be with me during and after my chemotherapy sessions. As you can imagine it has been a tremendous boost for me to have her here. Although I hate the thought of her having to take unpaid leave, so the cheque was extremely welcome. We received some good news when I was told that the tumour was shrinking and the chemo was working. I have now had 5 sessions of chemo and hopefully only one to go. However it may be three dependng on the outcome of the next scan. Once again many thanks for all your help, support and assistance with this matter. What a wonderful charity Pretty n Pink is and please pass on our grateful thanks to Noleen for making it all possible.
